Electronic Medical Records and Electronic Heath Records

An Electronic Medical Record (referred to as an EMR) and an Electronic Health Record (EHR) are both computerized medical records but serve much different functions. An EMR is created by the place where the care is being given. This could be your doctor's office, a hospital you visit, or any other medical professional's place of business. The main idea is for your physician to replace it's paper record system with the Electronic Medical Record System. An EHR on the other hand are used on a larger scale for broader data collection by enterprise level systems. It can refer to the medical records of individual patients or large groups of patients.
